70-Year-Old Man Reunites With Wife After Nearly Dying From Months-Long Battle With COVID

Ronnie Coltrane was hit particularly hard by COVID before he was even admitted to the hospital.

The 70-year-old man spent 12 weeks at Moses Cone Hospital in North Carolina, which included four weeks hooked up to a ventilator.

While he doesn’t remember much from his time there, he does recall the feelings of hopelessness and helplessness, and the toll the illness took on his body.

Doctors called Ronnie’s family and prepared them for the worst. They had his wife, Audrey, to say her final goodbye over FaceTime.

Then, a miracle.

After starting to breathe on his own and completing his rehabilitation, Ronnie finally walked out of the hospital — with a cane and 58 pounds lighter — surrounded by his cheering doctors and nursing staff. His family and friends were waiting for him back at home, excited to celebrate him and show him the new ramp for his wheelchair, built by generous members of their church.

He was one of the sickest coronavirus patients at the hospital to recover, and no one was more excited to see him than his wife, Audrey.

It’s easy to see why Ronnie says his faith has been renewed by his COVID experience.
