Stuck at home with not much to do, people have been finding some much-needed entertainment in the form of Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness. The Netflix documentary series is wildly popular, highly controversial, and, for many animal advocates, very upsetting to watch.

Tiger King centers around Joe Exotic, the eccentric founder of G.W. Zoo — a roadside zoo located in rural Oklahoma.

Becca Miceli, chief science and animal welfare officer at The Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg, Colorado, described to KDVR Denver what she saw at the G.W. Zoo firsthand.

“Smaller cages, lots animals in confined space, lots of animals acted stressed, showed psychological distress these animals can endure in facilities where they are forced to be out on exhibit or forced to pose for pictures.”

“We can’t put these animals back in the wild, so we are giving them as much open space and as much freedom as they can possibly have,” Becca said.

Thirty-nine tigers and three black bears from the G.W. Zoo have been taken to The Wild Animal Sanctuary, which has been the home to hundreds of rescued animal for nearly 40 years.

As you’re about to see in the clip below, these animals are now in a much better place.
