After giving birth to five daughters, Parvatibai Patidar prayed to have a son. In 2006, those prayers were answered when the mother from India got pregnant with a boy named Lalit.
About 30 minutes after Lalit was born, his parents were shocked to finally see him — because he was covered in an excessive amount of hair.
Doctors trimmed off whatever excess hair they could and told his parents there was no known cure for his condition.
Lalit was born with hypertrichosis, which causes abnormal hair growth on the face, arms and other parts of the body. It can occur over the entire body, or be localized to a certain area. For Lalit, his hypertrichosis mostly affects his face. Lalit often has trouble breathing and seeing beyond his thick facial hair.
Over the years, Lalit has been the victim of public scrutiny. He’s been called names like “monkey” and other children have thrown rocks at him. His parents continue to try and find effective treatments, but to no avail.

And though many of his classmates admitted they were frightened of him when they first met him, things have really changed among Lalit and his peers.
