It’s not every day that you turn 104. It’s also not every day that you celebrate that milestone birthday in the midst of a global health crisis. Verna Giachetti has done just that, with the grace of someone who has been there before.
In some ways, that does apply to Verna. Celebrating her 104th birthday on September 1, she’s now lived through two major health crises. Thankfully, she’s pulled through both with her health intact. That is certainly something to celebrate.
Verna enjoyed a special celebration on her big day. She got to sit outside her residence at the Horizon Personal Care Home in Fairchance, Pennsylvania, where the celebration came to her.
Many people in the area drove by with signs, honking their horns as Verna waved. Her friends and family members also came by to see Verna. For most of them, it’s the first time seeing her since the care home went on lockdown in mid-March.
They were inspired to put together the celebration by the many stories they heard of drive-by birthday successes, KDKA Pittsburgh reports. They felt it was the best way to help Verna be celebrated the way she deserves, while also keeping her safe.
From the looks of it, the 104-year-old had a blast. She was all smiles in her “The Queen is 104” shirt, waving at some of her favorite people. She even made some new friends along the way.
