11 Superb Tips to Make Your Facial Skin Shine

According to studies, not caring about your looks is one sure way to keep yourself from succeeding. Our appearance is important, and facial skin can also say a lot about your condition and health. We can’t measure beauty, but we can make ourselves look well-groomed which will definitely increase our confidence.

Bright Side found 10 tricks especially for women to help your facial skin stay glowing and fresh.

1. Don’t use baby cream.

You’ve probably been advised many times to use baby cream, especially in cold weather. Yes, it makes your skin softer. But only for a short time! This is due to the fact that baby cream contains lanolin that is useful only for children because a baby’s skin cells are quickly renewed and don’t have time to produce natural protection. But this ingredient is harmful to adults.

2. Apply cream on damp skin.

After you wash your face, don’t dry it with a towel. Applying cream to damp skin is the best way to give it a moisture boost and your skin will be able to absorb more nutrition from the cream.

3. Use baking soda as a facial cleanser.

Baking soda is a universal product that you can also use as a daily cleanser or as a face mask. It is a physical exfoliant and removes the top layer of your skin without causing excessive irritation.

Here are a couple of masks that you can make with baking soda:

1. Basic mask with baking soda. To prevent acne and remove dirt and oil take a 1/2 tbsp of baking soda in your hand, add 1 tbsp of warm water, and make a paste. Before applying it on your skin, rinse your face with warm water. Now put the paste on your skin using your fingertips. Leave for 5-10 minutes and wash away. After this procedure, it is recommended to apply some hydrating cream.

2. Honey and baking soda. By using this mask you get the additional effect of the honey that helps to smooth your skin and unclog your pores. You will need 1 tsp of raw honey to mix with 1/2 tsp of baking soda. Wash your face and dry it, then apply the mixture on your facial skin and neck and massage for several minutes. Leave it on for 10 minutes and after that rinse it off with warm water.

Please, be careful with sensitive and irritated skin! It is always better to test a mask first on the skin on your hand.

4. Put your eye cream in the fridge.

You woke up again with puffy eyes and don’t have any time to prepare and apply cold tea bags or fresh cucumbers because you need to get ready work. Just keep your eye cream in the fridge and make it ice cold. It will help to get rid of the puffiness and give your eyes some nutrition at the same time.

5. Add a teaspoon of grapeseed oil to your toner.

Grapeseed oil acts as an anti-aging serum, helping the skin to regenerate and renew. Grapeseed oil is very gentle, moisturizes the skin layers, and makes the skin color more dewy and smoother. Just add 1 tsp of grapeseed to your toner and clean your face every day with this mixture. It will save you lots of money on buying expensive creams and may even help eliminate your pimple problem.

6. Use plastic wrap to get rid of blackheads.

Use this trick no later than 10 minutes after your shower or after washing your face. Apply a “thicker than usual” layer of face cream on the areas that have the blackheads.

Put a piece of plastic wrap on the area and cover it with foil. After that apply a warm towel. Wait 10 minutes and then take everything off, including the face cream that you can wipe off with a soft napkin. Rub the skin gently and start pressing down with both index fingers wrapped in the napkins.

Now the process of cleaning blackheads from your skin is much faster and much easier.

After the procedure is finished, apply some toner.

7. Wash your face twice a day.

It is a common mistake to only wash our face at night after the day is finished. It’s also important to wash it in the morning, after sleeping, because you can have some dirt from your pillow or your hair on your skin.

8. Use oil instead of highlighter.

There is no need to use a highlighter all the time to get shiny cheekbones. You can just use your favorite facial oil or serum for this purpose. Using an oil or serum can be more beneficial for your skin, make it more moisturized, and help it look more natural.

After applying your makeup, take the facial oil and put a few drops on your hand. Dab a blending sponge on the oil to pick it up off your hand. Then start tapping the areas with the sponge where you’d normally apply highlighter. Be careful and gentle not to smudge your makeup.

9. Make your own lemongrass toner.

Asian people definitely know a lot about how to look young, and they found out a long time ago that lemongrass has amazing health and beauty benefits. This toner makes the skin smooth and you can also use it if your skin is irritated and has pimples or eczema.

To make the natural toner, boil fresh lemongrass in a cup of water until it reduces in half. Allow it to cool. Then make double strength green tea and mix both liquids in similar proportions. Add 5-6 drops of essential lemongrass oil.

10. Mix crushed aspirin with calamine oil.

This is very effective against blemishes and pimples because aspirin reduces inflammation. Take the aspirin pill and crush it, then mix it with a drop of calamine lotion or oil. Apply it on the blemishes and leave it on your face for 15 minutes. After that then gently rinse it off.

11. Here’s a highlighter hack for tired eye skin:

If you work a lot and don’t sleep enough, the skin around your eyes probably looks puffy and dry. To get rid of this problem fast you can use a mixture of a drop of highlighter, liquid concealer, and hydrating eye cream together.

Tap the area around your eyes with this mixture and it will give the illusion of de-puffed skin. But be careful with the amount of highlighter you use!

10 Ways to Get Rid of Sagging Face and Neck Skin

According to statistics posted by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, in 2017, 17 million women sought out Botox in order to tighten their sagging skin on both their face and neck! Even though Botox can be the easy way out, especially when someone has the financial ability to do so, there are many natural ways which are not widely known to get rid of sagging skin. Mostly because it takes time, dedication, and sacrifice. But when you try these tips, not only will you get rid of sagging skin, but your overall health will improve as well.

Here at Bright Side, we found 10 natural ways to get rid of sagging skin at any age and prevent it in the future without resorting to aesthetic surgery or needles.

1. Limit your sugar

We keep learning more and more negative effects that sugar has on our overall health, and when it comes to our skin it does more harm than good. Regular sugar consumption starts a process in our digestive system called glycation that results in AGE’s. These AGE’s break down the collagen that your body produces (which is the protein that keeps our skin tight) even faster than it should and it prevents it from being reproduced as regularly as it needs to.

This results in the skin becoming saggier and the appearance of wrinkles. When you eliminate sugar, the production of collagen will be re-balanced and both your skin and body will be strong and hydrated.

  • The maximum amount of sugar that your body needs without harming your health is 6 tsp daily.
  • But keep in mind that almost all the food we eat might contain sugar, so it is important to avoid it with your morning coffee or tea.

2. Try coconut oil

Coconut oil is the ultimate moisturizer. Because of its consistency, when you apply coconut oil on to the skin it fills the pores and wrinkles that may begin to appear keeping the skin smooth and hydrated, which is extremely important.

In addition, the fatty acids present in coconut oil can penetrate the skin due to its low molecular weight, unlike all water-based moisturizers, and they can protect your skin’s natural proteins. According to a study done by the National Institute of Health, coconut oil can effectively treat dry skin, prevent sagging skin, and eliminate wrinkles.

  • You can apply a small amount of coconut oil on to the skin in the morning, and double the amount at night right before bed.
  • It is important to look for an organic coconut oil that hasn’t been deodorized or treated in any way!
  • Do NOT forget to apply it on your neck as well because sometimes we neglect our neck area when it comes to moisturizing.

3. Double up on antioxidants

The skin is the largest organ in the human body and it is exposed to oxidization the most, which means your skin gets damaged just by going through your daily routine. Foods that are rich in anti-oxidants can help fight the damage that oxidative stress has done to your skin.

Even though you might get a moisturizer that is allegedly rich in anti-oxidants and can help revitalize your skin, when it comes to antioxidants the best job starts on the inside. Instead of spending a huge amount of money on an expensive moisturizer, start eating foods that will get your skin back on track and reduce any signs of aging.

  • Try eating lots of blueberries, grapes, strawberries, blackberries, red kidney beans, spinach, and kale.

4. Wash your face

We’ve all been guilty of sleeping in our makeup because we were too tired or too lazy to remove it. But it is important to take a few extra minutes in the morning and at night to wash your face, especially when it comes removing makeup. When makeup is applied to the skin, it slowly gets absorbed through the pores, and because almost all make-up products contain harsh chemicals this then adds and contributes to the oxidative stress that the skin cells go through on a daily basis.

  • It is important to use a water-based cleanser and then add some cold water on top in order to help your pores close.
  • Do NOT use a face scrub in the evening, just use a scrub once or twice a week in order to avoid irritating your skin and forcing your skin cells to be removed when they don’t need to be.
  • Apply a tiny bit of coconut oil as a moisturizer after you’ve cleansed your face.

5. Beta carotene and vitamin A

According to a recent study done at the National Institute of Health, a combination of beta carotene, which is present in many foods, and vitamin A can prevent and repair the aging of the skin, which is why we often see it as a main ingredient in many anti-aging skin moisturizers and sunscreens. Beta carotene has been proven to block the sun’s ultraviolet light from damaging and aging the skin and vitamin A stimulates collagen production and elastic fibers in the skin.

  • Both beta carotene and vitamin A are present in foods like carrots, sweet potatoes, kale, spinach, cantaloupe, and apricots.
  • The recommended daily allowance of both vitamin A and beta carotene is 30 mg.

6. Apply cucumber juice

As we age, components of the skin like collagen, which promotes firmness, and elastin, which provides elasticity, are produced 1% less every year after the age of 20! The skin then slowly begins to thin and sag in areas like the face, neck, and chest. So it is important to take care of those areas more frequently than other parts of the body with regular masks.

Cucumbers and cucumber juice work miracles when it comes to skin care. They are abundant in the mineral silica which is an essential component for healthy skin tissue, and ascorbic acid which can prevent water retention in the skin. When applied topically, cucumbers can draw out toxins from the skin’s pores and tighten collagen beneath the skin.

How to use:

  • Get 1 cucumber, peel it, and cut it in small pieces.
  • Grind it for 10 — 20 seconds until it becomes a watery juice.
  • After that, put it in a strainer and separate the water from the paste.
  • Wash your face as you normally would do at night with an oil-free cleanser.
  • Dab the juice on a cotton pad and then apply it on your face, neck, and chest.
  • Leave for 20 minutes until it dries.
  • Wash your face with cold water and pat it dry.
  • Repeat this method twice a week.

7. Mix baking soda and coconut oil

Both coconut oil and baking soda have great anti-aging benefits. Baking soda is a natural ingredient used to exfoliate the skin and get rid of dead skin cells, shrink large pores, and promote the production of collagen when massaged into the skin. Coconut oil, as we explained above, is great for moisturizing your skin, penetrating the skin, and treating sagging and wrinkles that appear over time.

By combining the 2 together you will be able to exfoliate your skin, moisturize it, and massage it which will promote blood flow underneath the skin and induce the production of collagen.

How to use:

  • Fill 1/4 of a jar with coconut oil (pick a jar with a lid so you can store it for later use).
  • Add 3 tbsp of baking soda and mix well until it becomes a paste.
  • In the morning, scoop out 1 tsp of the paste and massage it all over your face and neck for 1-2 minutes (avoid the delicate eye area).
  • Let it sit for 10 minutes.
  • Wash off with cold water and pat dry!
  • Repeat this 2 times a week.

8. Mix egg white and honey

Egg whites and honey have numerous health benefits for the skin when applied topically and scientific evidence can now prove it. According to a study from the Agocampu Rennes Sciences et Technologie Research Center, egg whites are proven to reduce wrinkles, fine lines, and reverse skin sagging. During their research, they took eggs from chickens and broke down the ingredients of the egg whites. By doing this they found 69 major proteins that revitalize and tighten the skin when applied topically.

Honey is abundant in antioxidants, can remove dirt, and penetrate the skin. In addition, it is hygroscopic, like glycerin, which means it moisturizes the skin and absorbs water from the environment. Combining these ingredients together they become a powerful skin treatment.

How to use:

  • Separate 1 egg white from the yolk into a bowl.
  • Add 2 tbsp of honey and mix well until it becomes a paste.
  • Apply on the skin, face, and neck (avoid the delicate eye area).
  • Leave on for 20 minutes.
  • Wash off with cold water and pat dry!
  • Repeat once a week.

Exercises

Just like leg muscles can respond to exercise with firming and toning, facial muscles respond to exercises as well. Muscles form a strong foundation for the skin, so when the muscles lose tone, the skin will follow and will start sagging. The theory behind facial exercises and face yoga is that they can tone the facial muscles, improve blood circulation, and tighten the skin.

9. The “Spoon” exercise

This exercise is ideal for raising your cheekbones, Reducing nasolabial folds, improving blood circulation, and both tightening and strengthening neck muscles.

How to perform:

  • Take a clean tablespoon, the purse your lips and place it between them in the middle.
  • Using your jaw, raise up the tablespoon.
  • Smile and keep it place for 5 — 10 seconds.
  • Relax your cheeks for a small break (10 seconds).
  • Repeat 10 times.
  • Do this exercise every morning after you wake up and every evening right before bed.

10. The eye lifting exercise

This exercise is ideal for lifting the skin around the eyes and cheekbones. It can rejuvenate the skin around the eyes and forehead and remove fine lines. In addition, this will strengthen the muscles around the eyes and forehead.

How to perform:

  • Put both your index and middle fingers in a scissor position.
  • Place them beside your eyes (one above the eyebrows and one above the cheekbones).
  • And start squinting repeatedly for 20 seconds.
  • Relax your eyes for a few seconds.
  • Repeat 10 times.
  • Do this exercise every morning and after you wake up and every evening right before bed!

It is important to remember that it takes time and effort to tighten sagging skin, but nature always has a slower yet effective process and sometimes cosmetic surgery isn’t the answer. Love yourself whether you look younger or older!

Have you tried any of these methods to get rid of sagging skin? What worked the best for you? Please share your experience with us in the comments below.

10 Steps of Korean Skin Care Routine That Can Make You Look 15 Years Younger

Everyone who has been to South Korea at least once has noticed the amazing ability Asian women have to stay younger for longer than European women can. Of course, genes play a huge role here but the most important factor is everyday care. Korean women have a lot of different skin care systems, but there’s a certain 10-step skin care routine that is believed to be the most popular.

We at Bright Side have discovered some of the best beauty secrets and we want to share them with you. And the best part is, it’s really easy to use this system in your everyday life.

1. Oil cleansing

The first step of this Korean skin care routine is cleansing. You can do this by using a cotton pad, your hand or a special sponge made of a plant called Amorphophallus konjac. This sponge is hypo-allergenic and allows you to cleanse your skin deeply and carefully, peeling the dead cells and normalizing the pH balance.

You can use a cosmetic product with the washing component or without it. Koren women prefer using hydrophilic oils. These products don’t only wash off makeup but they also dissolve sebum and cleanse the skin. They have a very positive impact on the skin.

2. Water-based cleansing

It seems that cleansing the skin a second time is not necessary. But Korean women know a secret: at this stage, it is necessary to remove the remnants of oil, sweat, and dust. We often use eggs as an ingredient for hair masks, but in Korea, they have a different way of using eggs for yolk-based skin care products.

Lipids make the facial skin softer and more elastic, and they stimulate the activity of the glands — they even make wrinkles disappear. This is not the only way to use egg yolks. This ingredient is also used in masks and different creams to decrease the size of pores. So it serves as a useful “breakfast” for the face!

3. Peeling and blackhead removal

This is one of the most important steps on the way to perfect skin. What’s the point of it, you ask? When dead cells are removed, other products can penetrate the skin more deeply and can be more effective. Peeling can be harsh on the skin, so it’s not recommended to do it more than 1-2 times a day.

As it turns out, sweet foods can be useful. For example, a mask made of black sugar is great for peeling skin, removing the blackheads and sebum. If you use it regularly, the skin will become way softer and cleaner. And volcanic lava-based masks are just as popular and have a matte effect. They’re very effective against acne.

4. Toner

This is not the most obvious skincare step so many people miss it, but that’s a huge mistake. After several steps, the skin becomes vulnerable and needs moisture. The skin is like a sponge and the more moisturized it is the better it absorbs the upcoming skincare products.

Toner ingredients are simple and can be made of yeast, for example. It is really effective because it doesn’t just moisturize the skin, but it also works as nutrition, making it more elastic. Toners often contain mineral water, so the skin also gets microelements.

5. Essence and serums

This is one of the most important steps. Now we are going from cleansing the skin to treating it. It is important to understand what problem you want to solve at this point. Is it whitening? Wrinkles? Depending on the goal, you should choose the right product. When using an essence, you should put it on the skin using tapping motions.

The Korean beauty industry is really inventive with their ingredients, some of which are found in…swamps! Serums with 20% of peat extract will make the skin elastic and wrinkle-free. There is a reason why such a strange ingredient is used: it has very good regenerating features. In Ancient times, Egyptians and Romans used peat to heal wounds.

6. Emulsion

The effect of a serum or an essence can be increased, and the best way to do this is with an emulsion. It should be light and the skin will “drink” the emulsion.

Emulsions, just like essences, can be used for solving different skin problems including battling age changes. In Korea, they use ginseng root a lot because it stimulates the cell production and protects the skin from free radicals. It also enables the synthesis of collagen and elastane.

7. Masks

Masks are supposed to prepare the skin for an aggressive environment. Just like the previous steps, the choice of the product depends on the effect you want to achieve. For moisturizing, Korean women use masks with snail extract, and in order to make the skin shinier, they use vitamin C. But there are even more interesting things about the masks they use.

Bubble clay masks are a hit not only in Asia but also in other countries. The thermal water normalizes the water-lipid balance and detoxes the skin. Another Korean trend is the donkey milk mask. Such a mask moisturizes the skin and heals micro wounds. It also has a whitening effect.

8. Eye cream

When taking care of their skin, Korean women pay a lot of attention to the thin skin around their eyes. If you use a cream, be careful when applying it to the skin with the fingertips. Don’t press too hard and don’t stretch the skin.

There are alternative ways of caring for this area like using patches. They contain both gold and black pearl powders. Such patches remove dark circles, swelling, and improve blood circulation.

9. Face cream

This step is supposed to finish the skin’s moisturizing process and soothe it. The Korean beauty industry offers a wide array of creams to choose from. Some creams are made with egg yolk for soothing the skin, while others use snail mucus for smoothing wrinkles and improving elasticity. There are even products with bird nest extract! They contain amino acids that keep the skin looking young. Additionally, the cream contains ions of gold that stimulate blood circulation.

10. Sun protection

Sunlight stimulates the aging of the skin. Korean women are sure that if you want to keep your skin young for as long as possible, you need to start using sunscreen. Use it every morning before going outside.

For example, the cream with donkey milk also protects the skin from stress, increases the level of vitamin C and of course, decreases the negative effects of UV-light. This may look strange but look at the women in South Korea: they look really young even at age 50 and older. And it’s not only due to genetics.

Bonus: a mayo mask for the hair

Mayo is hard to come by in a Korean kitchen, but you can easily find it in a bathroom! The mask is made of shea butter, macadamia oil, egg yolk, and vinegar. Such a mask serves as nutrition for the hair. As a result, hair gets softer, shinier, and more elastic.

If you want to use this mayo mask, it’s best to make the mayo yourself, or you can buy a Korean-made product.

Would you like to try this Korean skincare system? Or maybe you’ve already tried it and can share the results in the comment section below!

Why Do Some People’s Veins Appear Through Their Skin?

Our veins present a smart system of one-way valves that perform an important function of delivering oxygen-poor blood from the body back to the heart. Normally, we don’t think about our veins that much until we see them popping up under the skin. If your veins became visible and you can’t figure out why this has happened, don’t worry. Prominent veins may sometimes tell us about certain health problems, but in many cases, they have natural causes that are not dangerous for your health.

Here at Bright Side we’ve studied the reasons why our veins may become visible and this is what we’ve learned.

1. Visible veins may be just normal for your skin type.

Veins specialists say that people with fair skin are more likely to have visible veins than those with darker skin tones. Thin skin may also be a reason. As we age, the layer of fat under the skin becomes thinner and thinner. This is why elderly people often have prominent veins on their hands, legs, and other parts of the body. Besides, some people’s veins naturally lie closer to the surface of their skin.

2. Veins may become prominent after exercising.

Popping veins during a workout is normal. When you exercise, your muscles work, they bulge and push your veins toward the surface of the skin making them visible. After exercising, your muscles retract and your veins become less visible.

3. Many women observe popped up veins during pregnancy.

Visible veins is an issue that many pregnant women face and there’s nothing to worry about. The blood volume of a pregnant woman is higher than that of a non-pregnant woman, and the veins are trying to keep up with this increased amount of blood. The network of vessels is working overtime to transport the increased blood volume around the woman’s body to nourish the fetus. If you experience visible veins during pregnancy, but you’ve never had them before, they will probably ‘disappear’ after delivery.

4. Bulging veins are normal if you have low body fat.

Low body fat may also be a reason for your veins to become visible. Thin people have a thin layer of fat under their skin and this thin fat layer can’t fully cover the veins which makes them more prominent.

5. There are cases when prominent veins are a reason to visit the doctor.

As we told you above, in many cases prominent veins are normal and healthy and there’s nothing to worry about. However, if popped up veins are accompanied by other symptoms like chest pain, shortness of breath, ulcers near veins, or swollen veins, you should visit a doctor. These symptoms may be caused by health problems such as varicose veins, thrombophlebitis, and venous diseases, and they should not be ignored.

Have you ever had prominent veins? Did it worry you? Tell us in the comments!

Bonus!

Generally, in art, the result is what everyone is looking at. It is the most important part in the audience’s eyes because it shows the complete work. In the mind of the artist, however, it is the process. It is the journey it takes to start from developing an idea, then doing a small sketch, brain-storming, doing the archetypal drawings, changing it, and practicing in order to perfect it. So, it is important for the audience to see the “behind the scenes” process of an artist in order to understand how talent is built!

Experts Share 10+ Face-Washing Mistakes Most Women Are Making, but Now You Can Save Your Skin

When children, even girls don’t want to wash their face both in the morning and in the evening and they do it only when their moms make them. Having grown up, they understand that removing makeup after a long day is a good way to relax and get rid of tension. We can say that skin care starts with washing the face. However, it turned out that doing it wrong can harm the face and even cause premature skin-aging as well as the appearance of blemishes.

We at Bright Side learned about the details of everyday facial cleansing and found out that many of us do it wrong. In this article, our readers will find professional advice and recommendations from cosmetologists and dermatologists, as well as an interesting bonus with a secret on how to remove blackheads easier.

Main rules

  • In order to clean your face thoroughly, start with your hands. In order to avoid the dirt and oil from your hands getting on your face, wash them with soap.
  • Many girls make one of 2 of the most common mistakes: they remove makeup with a special product and don’t wash their face after that or, conversely, use a washing gel without removing makeup before doing so.

Micellar water removes not only makeup but also the natural protective oil layer from your face. That’s why after wiping your face with it, wash it with water once again.

There are many useful components for effective cleansing and skin moisturizing in face-washing products of good quality. However, you can’t get rid of dirt completely using only a washing gel or a washing foam. All this will lead to clogged pores and inflammation.

Is it better to wash the face with your hands or with a sponge?

  • Say “No” to reusable sponges — even if you wash them every evening, there are many bacteria reproducing inside a sponge and they won’t do anything good for your skin.
  • Many dermatologists advise washing the face with your hands to lessen the skin damage because microcracks and excessive friction can lead to premature wrinkles. Nerida Joy, a cosmetologist who works with many Hollywood celebrities recommends doing it the following way: apply the face washing product to the moisturized skin using circular movements without putting too much pressure on your skin. Remember that our skin is covered with thin hairs and circular movements will help penetrate the pores underneath them.
  • Also, experts recommend not to use sponges, but disposable tissue napkins or cloths for washing dishes for extra cleansing. Nowadays, it’s quite easy to get both napkins and cloths in stores. Wet the cloth with warm water and wipe the rest of the dirt or makeup with sliding movements. Repeat the procedure 3 times and remember to always use a clean napkin or cloth.

Which washing product to choose?

  • Don’t wash your face with products that produce a lot of foam (with the exception of cleansing foam.) Its aggressive sulfates that give this effect are the reason why instead of cleaning the face, you destroy the lipid barrier and break the pH balance. Usually, such gels create a feeling of a sparkling-clean face but it’s just an illusion. Such products only aggravate rosacea, inflammation, and aging of the skin.
  • Forget about scrubs even the ones made of natural ingredients (coffee, baking soda, or oats). Use a soft wiping cloth for exfoliation.
  • Choose a cleanser suitable for your skin type.

Lotions and milk cleansers will suit dry skin.

Washing gels and foams will suit oily or combination skin.

Cleansing foams are the best option for mature and sensitive skin.

Try to find a product that doesn’t contain alcohol but has glycerine and niacinamide. If your skin is prone to acne, look for a salicylic acid, glycolic acid, or benzoyl peroxide in the contents of a face-washing product. But if you have oily skin, don’t use those products every day because by doing so, you can overdry the skin and it will start producing more oil, which will only aggravate the situation with acne.

Water and towel

  • Lukewarm water is the perfect option for washing the face. If the water is too cold, it will make your pores shrink and if the water is too hot, it will make your skin dry.
  • Don’t rub your face with a towel too much — it’s better to simply soak your face and wait until it dries completely. By the way, if you have acne-prone skin, cosmetologists recommend washing your towel after every use.
  • Wash your face with massage movements for 40-60 seconds so that all of the useful components of the cleanser will have a chance to do their job.

The skin around the eyes

  • The skin around the eyes is much thinner and this fact makes it more vulnerable to aging. Don’t rub it while washing and don’t scrub it. Even moisturizing creams should be applied carefully — it’s better to use special products for the eyes.
  • Remove makeup from the eyes carefully. Cosmetologists advise wiping the face with a cotton pad from the outer edge of the eye to the inner one; starting with the upper lid and finishing with the lower one.

Further moisturizing

  • After removing your makeup, as well as washing and drying the face, it’s necessary to apply a moisturizing product to the face. It can be a toner, moisturizing serum, or a cream.
  • If you use several products, apply a toner first — it will normalize the pH of your skin. By the way, some cosmetologists recommend applying it with your fingers because a cotton pad will absorb the biggest part of the product.

Gentle cleansing

One beauty channel shared a video where they showed the face-washing process that many girls in South Korea use in details. The main recommendation states that you should “Treat your face as if it’s your baby.” It means that there should be minimal pressure on your skin. Here is how this gentle process looks:

  • Wash your face with water.
  • Squeeze the necessary amount of the face-washing product and foam it in your hands, not on your face. There is no need to do it if you are using a washing foam.
  • Apply the product to your face very carefully and gently.
  • Make massage movements with your pinky fingers — it will prevent you from pressing too much and from traumatizing your skin. Moreover, the pinky fingers can massage the face more carefully.
  • Rinse the product and don’t rub your face with wet hands. Instead, fill your hands with water and rinse your face with small portions.
  • Don’t wipe the face with a towel. Instead, dry your hands and massage your face.
  • Apply a toner or a thermal water while your face is still wet.

Bonus: how to make pore strips work more effectively.

Recently cosmetologists have shared a new way of how to get rid of blackheads on the nose more effectively. You’ll need a pore strip for the nose to perform this procedure.

  • Cleanse your face;
  • Steam it over a bowl of hot water so that your pores will expand;
  • Soak the pore strip in a solution of baking soda and warm water and then stick it onto your nose;
  • Carefully peel the strip off after it dries.

The secret is in the solution of water and soda as the baking soda will remove extra oil from your nose and, therefore, provide better adhesion with the skin.

Remember that you’re better off not using them very often — once a week is more than enough.

10 Common Skin Care Mistakes That Are Damaging Your Face

Have you ever thought why the same tips about skin care keep repeating in various articles in all kinds of magazines? The reason is not in the fact that editors lack fantasy but in the fact that most readers simply don’t follow the simple advice that’s offered. Perhaps, it’s time to stop wasting money on expensive cosmetics that promise miracles and just start from the basics?

We at Bright Side don’t want to overestimate the power of affecting your life but still, we will try to protect you from 10 of the most widespread mistakes when it comes to taking care of the face. Don’t miss our bonus about the benefits of a banana peel at the end!

1. You change your cosmetics too often.

It is not easy to resist the purchase of another face cream or serum when magazines keep showing us endless compilations of the best beauty products of the season, while cosmetic stores keep announcing discounts and sales. However, it’s still worth doing your best to resist it, especially if you already have several items at home that suit you completely.

Perhaps, you are afraid that your skin could adjust to the old cosmetics and that’s why you keep changing cosmetic items in order to get a better effect? It’s all in vain because your skin doesn’t adjust to skincare products, while a newly bought cream can become the reason for an allergic reaction.

2. You use a facial scrub on a daily basis.

Our skin regenerates without any “extra” help; however, we still keep using scrubs in order to speed up this process. Yes, scrubs can help your skin peel faster, as well as cleanse your skin but if you do it on a daily basis, you risk depriving your skin of its protective layer.

Generally speaking, scrubs and rough brushes are not the best solutions for cleansing the face. We recommend replacing them with light chemical peelings. And we don’t mean expensive procedures at beauty salons. Nowadays, there are many items for home use that can softly and painlessly remove dead skin cells. For example, almond peeling can be done at home and even in summer without the risk of pigmentation.

3. You refuse using makeup removers.

In an effort to simplify your evening skin care routine, you may be washing off the makeup and dust of a large city with one cleanser or just water. However, by doing so, not only do you save a couple of minutes but you also leave cosmetic particles on your face and that can lead to the clogging of the pores, acne, and an increase in the oil content of the skin.

That’s why before washing your face, it’s better to use a makeup remover such as micellar water, cleansing oil, or cleansing balm. They are not useless bottles invented to empty your wallet — they’re necessary products if you want the best for your skin.

4. You use the same pillowcase for 2 weeks.

Even if you wash your hair and thoroughly cleanse your face every evening before going to sleep, your pillowcase stores dust, particles of epithelium (including the epithelium of a person you are sharing your bed with) and pet hair. After 2-3 days, your pillow has the perfect conditions to “enrich” your face with blemishes.

If you don’t want to see blemishes on your face in the morning, change the pillowcase once every 2 days. And also try replacing it with the one made of silk. It will give you more chances not only to protect your face from rashes but also from premature wrinkles.

5. You don’t use toner.

Toner is a product that restores the pH balance of the skin and prepares it for further procedures. Even a usual moisturizing cream works more effectively with a toner. Moreover, it’s necessary to use it after traumatizing procedures such as chemical peels.

By including it in a set of necessary beauty products, you are most likely to avoid skin problems such as dryness, irritation, and rashes. The main thing is to find a product that doesn’t contain alcohol, otherwise, the situation will be exactly the opposite.

6. You use powder to remove oily shine.

The face shines 24/7 and no matting products can help. This can really be an issue in the summer. And that’s when many reach for the face powder to get rid of the shine. Unfortunately, it can’t keep the skin matte for a long time (especially when it’s very hot outside) but it will definitely clog the pores.

Instead of trying to disguise the oily shine with powder, try matting wipes. They won’t provide a long-lasting effect but at least will remove unnecessary oil from the face without adding anything.

7. You correct your eyebrows before applying makeup.

If you suddenly find extra hairs in the brow area or above the upper lip, leave them as they are till the evening. It’s unlikely that someone will pay attention to them, while the redness or the inflammation on the spot of a plucked hair will be visible to anyone no matter how much makeup foundation you use.

If you do decide to correct your eyebrows, it’s worth waiting no less than 2 hours before applying cream or decorative cosmetics to the treated area.

8. You wash your face before taking a shower.

Of course, you can wash your face whenever you feel like washing it but it’s better to wash your face with a small amount of a cleanser once again after taking a shower. Hair products often contain silicones, parabens, and other chemicals that make hair smooth and soft. Unfortunately, they are not as useful for the face.

Conversely, by staying on the skin, they can cause irritation, redness, or worsen already existing acne. That’s why we recommend removing cosmetics from your face before taking a shower and conduct a final wash of the face after you have washed your hair.

9. You don’t apply skincare products before going to sleep.

After wearing makeup for the entire day, you may not want to have anything on your face at all. However, your skin will restore better if you apply a night cream, a serum, or a mask. The active substances contained in these products neutralize the negative effect of decorative cosmetics and help your face look fresh.

10. You don’t use SPF products on cloudy days.

It seems that everyone who cares about staying young and beautiful has realized the importance of protection from UV rays. But though many people use an SPF product on sunny days even in the city and not only at the beach, still, many of them forget about protection from the sun on cloudy days.

Unfortunately, harmful ultraviolet radiation is always there, even in cold Scandinavian countries. That’s why it’s necessary to protect your skin all year round. You don’t need to use special sunscreen products when it’s cloudy outside. Simply buy a moisturizing SPF 30 cream and it will be enough for the health of your skin.

Bonus: how can a banana peel help your skin?

Very often, the solutions to skin care issues can be found in simple things like a banana peel. It possesses a number of benefits such as:

  • fighting puffy eyes (place the inner side of a banana peel over your eyes for a few minutes);
  • reducing wrinkles (rub the peel on the targeted areas and rinse after 30 minutes);
  • treating acne and papillomas (rub the targeted areas for several minutes 3 times per day);
  • and even whitening teeth (rub gently over your teeth for a few minutes 1-2 times a day).

Which of these mistakes do you make? Are you going to change your habits? Please tell us about it in the comments!

Asian Anti-Aging Massage That Takes Only 2 Weeks to Tighten Your Facial Skin

Asian Anti-Aging Massage That Takes Only 2 Weeks to Tighten Your Facial Skin

Our skin’s beauty and health mostly depend on proper blood circulation. A facial massage that improves blood and lymph flow and reduces water retention can minimize the appearance of wrinkles and improve your skin tone. You can give yourself such a massage using spoons. The spoon massage is really popular in Japan, Korea, and China. Today it’s also used in different European countries: for example, German cosmetic Rene Koh recommends it to rejuvenate your skin.

There are many spoon massage techniques and Bright Side has collected the most interesting and effective ones. After just 2 weeks of doing the massage every day, you’ll already notice changes.

What do I need?

  • You’ll need small spoons. In Asia, porcelain or ceramic spoons of a certain shape are used to provide a better point pressure. But regular spoons will do too. Just make sure they don’t have any sharp edges or notches.
  • Oil that you’re not allergic to (for example, coconut oil) and face cream. Apply creamy oil or cream before a massage. If your oil is too runny, you may dip the spoon into it. For your information: the method with cream is more convenient.
  • Cold and warm water. You may also add any herbal concoction. Alternating cold and warm spoons provides better blood circulation and stimulates nerve endings.

A few useful tips:

  • Sanitize your spoons and store them separately.
  • Clean your skin before a massage.
  • Apply enough oil or cream for a better gliding (don’t apply it to your eyes.)
  • Don’t press too hard to avoid bruises and vessel injuries.
  • The best time for a massage is in the morning.
  • Watch the temperature: warm spoons should be comfortable for the skin.

10. Get rid of under-eye bags and swelling.

Getting rid of under-eye puffiness

Place the convex side of a cold spoon under your eyes and move them up and down and back and forth. If you apply cream under your eyes, your movements can be more intense. The duration is 1-2 minutes.

Getting rid of swollen eyelids

Close your eyes and place the convex side of a cold spoon on your eyes. Let the spoons get warm, dip them into cold water, and place them on your eyes again. Repeat 5-7 times.

9. Reduce wrinkles between eyebrows.

Place a cool spoon on the upper part of the bridge of your nose and, slightly pressing, move up to the upper part of your forehead. Repeat the same actions using a warm spoon. Continue using both spoons one-by-one 10 times.

8. Get rid of crow’s feet.

Place the backs of cold spoons on the outer corners of your eyes. With 5-7 circular motions transfer the utensils toward the temples, increasing the pressure. Change your spoons to warm ones and repeat. Continue the massage (while changing spoons) 5 times.

7. “Open up” your eyes.

Place warm spoons at the beginning of your eyebrows the way it’s shown in the picture. Use circular motions to slide slowly to the temples, slightly lifting your eyebrows. Repeat the same procedure 10 times.

6. Get rid of forehead wrinkles.

Place warm spoons in the middle of your forehead and move to your temples with circular motions. You may also avoid using circular motions and stretching your skin with the spoons. Then you get back to the middle of the forehead. When spoons get cool, heat them again. The duration of the massage is 2-3 minutes.

5. Reduce laugh lines.

Open your mouth and slightly stretch out your lips. Place heated spoons under your nose the way it’s shown in the left photo. Move the spoons with circular motions to both corners of your mouth. With circular motions, get back under your nose. Repeat 5-7 times.

4. Get rid of a double chin.

Place 2 warm spoons under your chin and move them to your ears with circular motions, slightly stretching your skin. Don’t forget that the spoons should always be warm. Repeat 10 times.

3. Tighten your cheeks.

Place warm spoons at the corners of your mouth, keeping them upright. With circular motions, move the spoons to your ears. Then heat the spoons again, place them in the starting position, slightly open your mouth, and smile the way it’s shown in the right picture. With circular motions, move the spoons under your ears. Repeat both exercises 5-6 times.

2. Take care of your décolletage skin.

Place warm spoons on the solar plexus and move them to your collarbone with circular motions, massaging the whole décolleté area. Dip the spoons into cold water and repeat the same moves. Continue changing warm and cool spoons 10 times.

1. Relax your neck muscles.

Place a warm spoon under your ear the way it’s shown in the left picture. Press slightly and move to your collarbone. Repeat 10 times.

Contraindications

Consult your doctor or don’t do these types of massages if:

  • you suffer from rosacea;
  • you experience problems with the lymphatic system;
  • your veins are located close to the surface of the skin;
  • you have skin inflammation or damage.

It’s recommended to do the spoon massage every day. If you don’t have such an opportunity, you may create your schedule, as long as it’s on a regular basis.

What is your favorite type of massage therapy? Have you ever tried the spoon massage? Share your experience with us in the comments section below!

Texts From the Dead That'll Make Your Skin Crawl

image

With Halloween quickly approaching, we’ve been trying to keep you up to date on everything you need to know about the spooky holiday. We’ve shared controversial kid’s costumes, questionable adult choices, and even debunked some of the most common superstitions (black cats, anyone?).

Today, we bring you an article that’s not for the faint of heart, or for anyone not looking to get goosebumps.

See, grief is a powerful thing, and we’re often longing to communicate with our deceased loved ones — until, that is — they send us an answer from beyond the grave.

Read on for people who got messages from the dead. This story is guaranteed to make your skin crawl.

“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal…”

Reddit user hollywoodpizzapirate periodically texts his dad when he’s thinking of him. He’ll send him a message on holidays, like this one he sent him on Father’s Day.

The crazy thing is, he actually received a response.

“YOU LET THEM RUIN MY FUNERAL”

image

Taufeus shared his terrifying text message conversation with the reddit community, r/nosleep.

Taufeus worked at one of the most popular funeral homes in his city while putting himself through college. His job wasn’t preparing the corpses for the funeral, but rather “working with the families of the deceased on planning the appropriate services for their loved ones,” in his words.

One day, he welcomed a grieving mother and father in their mid-40s, who were inquiring about a service for their late son. According to Taufeus, “he had been in a nasty car accident on the highway. His name was Bobby and he was 19 at the time of his passing.”

Taufeus took Bobby’s parents on a tour of the funeral home while they talked about the kind of service they’d hold, and what kinds of objects the parents wanted buried with their son. “This isn’t an unusual thing, many people do this with deceased loved ones. When everything arrived it included a baseball cap, a sports team hoodie and his cell phone (turned off),” he wrote.

After his trying day at work, Taufeus went home, took a shower, and sat in front of the TV. At this point, his phone buzzed.

I’ll let him take it from there:

My iPhone beeps a text notification… I was somewhat surprised this text came from a number not saved in my contacts list.

“HELLO.” It read.

A little weirded out I responded. “Hey there, who is this?”

I began heading to my bedroom and shut the door. Turned the TV on and got into bed. I usually would watch a bit of TV before falling asleep. My phone beeps again.

“BOBBY…” It said.

“Bobby who?” I asked, I hadn’t ever known anyone by the name.

“YOU KNOW WHO I AM, YOU MET MY PARENTS TODAY.”

I got a bit dizzy as I read it. Along with a rock settling in my stomach. “There’s no way this is that kid.” I thought to myself.

I responded, ‘This isn’t funny, what happened to him was horrible and no one should be joking around like this.’

The number responded ‘SHUT YOUR ROTTEN MOUTH YOU LET THEM RUIN MY FUNERAL RUIN IT!!!!! IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN YOU IN THE CAR ACCIDENT NOT ME. YOU’LL HAVE AN EARLY GRAVE TOO IF IT GOES MY WAY!’

Absolutely unsurprisingly, Taufeus quit his job at the funeral home shortly after this event. But not before some other crazy antics went down with Bobby. Read the whole story here.

“I’m watching over you, you’ll get through this, you’ll be alright”

image

A family who buried their elderly grandmother with her phone (I guess this is more common of a practice than I would have expected) got a message from their beloved, seemingly from beyond the grave.

According to The Independent, Lesley Emerson was a ‘prolific texter’ up until she lost her battle with cancer at age 59, which prompted the family to bury their beloved with her favorite device.

Her granddaughter, Sherri, had been texting her deceased grandmother intermittently since her passing as a way to cope. “Obviously we know that Nan wasn’t going to ever reply, it was just something we did as a comfort for ourselves because she loved to text,” she explained.

One day, after Sherri sent her grandmother her usual greeting, she got a message back. It read,”I’m watching over you, you’ll get through this, you’ll be alright.”

The terrified granddaughter doubled down, this time asking who she was texting. Then she received another reply: “I’m watching over you and it’s all going to get better. Just push through.”

To make matters scarier, the family had already been in touch with their service provider, O2, who assured them that their grandmother’s phone number would be promptly disconnected after her passing and would never be used again.

AHHH!!

“I’mmm soo coldd”

In one of the most chilling text conversations of all time, CR_Jones hit up his best friend Mario to make plans about seeing the IT movie that was going to be released in September.

Mid-conversation, things start to devolve:

Me: (Talking about plans to go see IT) Yeah I guess we’ll just see who can drive that Friday whenever we meet up. We’ll just play it by ear.

Mario: Stopp touchhingg the therrmostat its soooo coold in here

Me: What?

Mario: I’mmm soo coldd

Me: What is this? What are you talking about?

Mario: Theee thermmostat stooopp touccching itt

Me: How could I possibly be touching your thermostat right now?

Me: Are you drunk or something? Why do you keep texting like that?

There was about a twenty minute pause here before he texted me back.

Mario: SOoo CoLDdd

Me: You’re starting to freak me out Mar. What is this about?

I try calling him but he doesn’t answer.

Me: Mar can you answer your phone please

Mario: Whehere arre the ligghhhts

Me: Dude, seriously what the f–k are you talking about?

Mario: It’ss soOO DarRKKkkK

I try calling him again. Nothing.

Me: ANSWER YOUR PHONE F–K FACE!!!!

Me: I’m going to kill you if this is a joke you’re genuinely starting to freak me out.

There was another long pause here before I finally started texting him again.

Me: Mar?

Me: Are you still there dude?

Me: ????

I try another call, still nothing.

Me: ANSWER YOUR F–KING PHONE!!!

Mario: ITt’sS soOooO COcold here

Mario: SOoo Cooldd

Mario: sosfOFJl coLODOJ

Mario: SooJDOK COlLDLOhfa

“The rest of his texts after this are just nothing but gibberish. He would send me a new one about every five minutes and continued to do so well into the night. I continually told him to stop whatever it was that he was doing and tried calling him several more times, but nothing was working,” CR Jones explained.

After a while, he put his phone on silent, figuring that Mario would get bored of this prank once he realized he wouldn’t be getting a response.

The next day, he woke up to hundreds more messages from Mario. “Most of them were just lines and lines of the same s–t that he was texting me earlier. Nothing but gibberish. Nearly 112 messages of it … I sent him a text a little after waking up to see whether or not he was done with his bulls–t.”

After Mario failed to respond to this text, CR Jones received a visit from two police officers later that afternoon asking if he’d been in contact with his friend, as he’d been missing since 4 p.m. the previous day.

He continues, “I invited them inside and showed them my phone. They examined the text messages together for a very long time whispering things back and forth to each other before finally turning to me. They told me that the time stamps on the messages didn’t make any sense. I asked them what they were talking about and they said that Mario had left his phone behind whenever he had gone missing. There was no way that he could have sent those texts because he didn’t have his phone with him.

“I felt my entire body stiffen and go cold.”

If you’re thinking this story can’t possibly get any creepier, I assure you, it does. Read the full story here.

Were these text messages not scary enough for you?

Though we aimed to pick the most goosebump-enducing ones, honorable mentions go to 1) the guy who received terrifying Facebook messages from his dead girlfriend 2) this kid who was texting his best friend who he didn’t know had died and 3) this person who got a phone call from his dead sister that caused him to question whether she really killed herself.

15 Tips on Improving Under-Eye Skin You’d Better Start Using Right Now

Everything influences our skin’s condition: not sleeping enough at night, being tired, an argument with the boss, the cigarettes we smoke, etc. The area around the eyes is especially sensitive to these stressors. It loses elasticity very quickly. And it’s one of the most active areas in terms of movement: we blink, make faces and squint all the time.

Bright Side has collected the main rules that should be taken into account in order to make skin care as efficient as possible.

1. Preventative action

The rule “better prevent than correct” works for skin care too. You should know that the later you start taking care of your skin, the more time it will take to see the effects, and if you start doing it when you’re middle-aged, there’s a chance that you will need a cosmetologist.

The best age to start taking care of the skin around the eyes is 20 years old. This is the time when girls use a lot of cosmetics and the load on this area increases.

2. Regular care is essential.

Taking care of your skin from time to time is pointless. There is no product that can show results right away. That’s why the care should be constant over time. The least you can do it use a cream on the area every morning and every evening.

3. Don’t use just one product.

If you are bothered by a certain problem like circles under the eyes or pigment spots, for example, you can buy a product that deals only with one problem. There is no way that one product can solve multiple problems. So, it’s important not to use moisturizing cream in order to get rid of dark circles. If you want to take good care of the area around your eyes, choose the necessary product.

4. Buy glasses or contact lenses.

When squinting because of the sunlight or when trying to see something if you have bad vision, you load your eyes and the area around them even more. This is a great way to get wrinkles. So, don’t forget about wearing sunglasses in summer and using contact lenses or glasses if you don’t see things well.

5. UV light is bad for the skin.

If you don’t use sunscreen, you might end up having dark circles under the eyes. So, use sunglasses and sunscreen whenever you can.

6. Pay attention to the composition of the product.

We rarely think about what we put on our skin. And any cosmetic product is a challenge for it, so the safer the ingredients, the less serious consequences you will have in the future.

Here is a piece of advice: when choosing a cosmetic product, don’t forget to read what it’s made of. And if at least one component seems suspicious to you, it’s better to look for something else or consult an expert.

7. It’s important to apply cream correctly.

When applying a cream, you should follow some simple rules:

  • Before using a cream, clear your skin even if there are no cosmetics on it at all. Pay special attention to the area around the eyes, and don’t rub it with a sponge. Only after that, you can use a cream.
  • Put the cream on carefully, following the massage lines, without pushing the skin — it harms the skin that is losing elasticity anyway.
  • When using a cream, you should avoid the area of the upper eyelids. Also, don’t put any products near the eyelashes — you might accidentally get some of it in your eyes. The only exception is products that say that they are safe for the eyes.

8. Moisturizing masks are better than scrubs and peels.

It’s better not to use scrubs and peels in this area. These methods are great for clearing skin, but the skin around the eyes is really thin and quickly loses elasticity. So if you want to scrub this area, see an experienced specialist.

9. Don’t use too much cream.

In this case, it’s not a good idea to use a lot of cream. When there is too much cream, it might get inside the eyes and cause swelling. So don’t forget — the amount of cream you can put on this area is as big as a grain of rice.

10. Drink water, set a schedule, and get rest.

Water influences a lot of things in the body and the skin is no exception. So, drinking enough water is just as important as sleeping enough and having enough rest. Giving up bad habits is also something you should do in order to stay young looking.

11. Don’t forget about tonics.

Tonics are great for moisturizing the skin. It’s better to put it on the skin for 5-7 minutes.

If you don’t have any tonic, you can replace it with ice. Put it on the skin every morning and every evening.

12. Cosmetic oils can’t harm.

It’s okay to use special cosmetic oils — most of them get absorbed by the skin really fast and are good for massaging the area around the eyes. Such one procedure prevents the deformation and stretching of the skin.

13. Say “no” to soap-based cleansing products.

Today, there are so many products for washing the skin that there is just no point in choosing soap. Soap dries the skin which is really harmful.

But if you still have to use soap, don’t forget to use a moisturizing cream or grapeseed oil after.

14. It’s important to know and consider your skin type.

Cosmetic products are divided into groups for a reason: there are products for each skin type. The best case scenario if you choose a product that doesn’t match your skin type is that it just won’t work. But it can do a lot of harm.

Don’t forget about how sensitive the area around the eyes is. Depending on the type of skin, it needs a special approach.

15. First wrinkles are not a big problem.

If you notice the first wrinkles, it only means that your skin needs more attention. Don’t rush to buy anti-aging creams. Wrinkles may appear because of being tired, dry air, or UV-light, and you can deal with these problems with other lighter products.

Bonus: what you should know about milia

Milia are small bumps that often appear on the skin and cheeks. They appear when keratin gets trapped under the surface of the skin. People often mistake them for acne or blackheads and try to remove them but this is a mistake. There is no safe way to remove milia at home without special tools and skills (experts use really thin needles to do this). So, if you want to get rid of such bumps, you should see a cosmetologist.
