11 Unusual Ways to Use Pads and Pantyliners That Will Make Your Life Easier

The first ever mention of sanitary pads dates back to 4th century CE. Nowadays, they can be found in almost every household. The material used for pads and pantyliners is designed to absorb and store liquid while keeping its outside layer dry and soft. That is why pads and panty liners can have many unusual, but very handy, uses.

We at Bright Side like different handy hacks and prepared this unusual selection for you.

1. Drawer freshener

You can use pads and pantyliners to make your drawers smell very nice. Spray your favorite perfume or place a few drops of your favorite essential oil on a pad or pantyliner and place it in the drawer between your clothes, towels, or underwear.

2. Screen cleaning

Sweat, dust, oils from your skin, sunscreen, and makeup — all of it gets on the screens of your gadgets and builds up into something truly disgusting. The material used for pads and pantyliners is very soft and delicate which makes it a good alternative to screen wipes. Add a drop of water to a pantyliner and clean your screen.

3. Against corns

Most of us probably have at least one pair of shoes that look very cool and stylish but that constantly give us blisters or corns. Cut a few strips from a pantyliner and place them inside your shoes, in places where you experience the discomfort.

4. Sliding in high heels

If you like wearing high heels, you’ve most likely noticed that on warm days your feet get sweaty and can start sliding or sticking to the insole of the shoes. To prevent this unpleasant experience, insert pantyliners into the shoes. They will absorb the moisture and will be totally invisible.

5. Shoe odor

When we sweat, we smell. Bacteria loves a warm and wet environment and grows like crazy in it, creating an awful smell. Use pads instead of the shoe insoles in your running shoes or work boots, to prevent unpleasant odors. Because of the sticky surface, the pads won’t slide and all the moisture will be absorbed.

6. Uncomfortable bras

If you’ve ever been in a situation where the underwire breaks through the fabric of your bra, you will agree that it could drive anyone crazy. Use pantyliners for your bra if it has an uncomfortable and sharp underwire. Cut the pantyliner and wrap it around the underwire, soft side out.

7. Spill cleanup

Pads can absorb liquid exceptionally well which makes them a very good cleaning tool for small spills, especially if you had an accident in a car or on a carpet. Just cover the spill with the soft side, apply some pressure to get as much liquid as the pad can absorb, repeating with another one if needed, and the problem is solved.

8. Make up and nail polish removal

Run out of cotton balls? No problem, pantyliners are the perfect material for removing makeup or nail polish. Cut a small piece from a pad and apply a few drops of makeup or nail polish remover, the pad’s material is very soft and safe to use on skin.

9. Sweat stains

Most of us have probably had to deal with this problem during the summer. To prevent sweat stains on your shirt, place pantyliners on the inside armpit area. They’re thin enough to be invisible and will absorb any moisture preventing you from getting those awful yellowish stains.

10. Bandage

Pads and pantyliners are also very good to use as bandages if you have a bleeding cut or scratch. Place it soft side to the skin and keep it there until it stops bleeding. The pad will absorb the blood.

11. Sunglass protection

If you are concerned that your sunglasses may get scratched in a soft case, pantyliners can help you to avoid that. Line the case with pantyliners and the problem is solved. You can also use pantyliners to wipe your sunglasses.

13 Smart Parenting Tricks That Can Make Life Easier

According to studies, children with parents who are genuinely interested in their daily activities show a higher grade proficiency. We all want to see our children become successful and well-organized, but sometimes easy life hacks can be more effective than long, constructive talks. If you want your children to follow you, speak in their language and add a little bit of creativity.

At Bright Side, we’ve found 13 great tricks that will make your parenting easier and more fun.

1. Glue coins to an old pair of your child’s shoes for a tap-dancing trial.

This hack is very useful for parents whose kids are involved in different activities. Glue coins to the bottoms of the shoes to make steps safer or to make tap-dancing sounds.

2. Make a sound station for children.

Use a pallet to create a sound station for your children. You can involve your kids in designing it. It’s a good, entertaining project to do while you’re in a summer house.

3. Create an entertaining place for the baby to picnic easily.

If you are going to spend some time with your baby outdoors, don’t forget to bring an umbrella. It will protect the baby from the sun, plus it can be a good solution to hang toys. Now going on picnics is way more relaxing.

4. Use a ruler to lock drawers.

A very fast and easy way to stop a baby from opening shelves is with a ruler. Just insert the ruler inside the handles and stop being worried that your kid will pinch their fingers.

5. Get an organizer for your car.

Make your trips with a baby easier by attaching a seat organizer in the car. All the things you need will be at hand and it will save lots of time instead of searching for things all the time in your bag.

6. Use old containers to keep stuff for your baby.

Use old small containers to keep a pacifier in. It will help you to escape cleaning it again and organizing space for it in your purse.

7. Make a chore chart.

If you have a hard time keeping your kid on top of chores, this chart can be very helpful to keep their rooms clean. You can decide about the size and color yourself. For this chart, you’ll need only paper, magnetic tape, markers, and scissors.

8. Remember the lollipop hack.

If your kid likes lollipops but always gives it back to you after licking it for a while, just create a cover for it from a Kinder Surprise Egg. No need to throw it away each time.

9. Travel hack for babies

Make an exciting travel bag with surprises for your baby. Take a paper egg container, plastic eggs from a Kinder Surprise Egg and fill it with tasty snacks. The size of the eggs won’t let you take too much, so your kid won’t get too much sugary food.

10. Put glue on the bottom of your kids’ shoes to prevent them from slipping.

There’s no need to buy special shoes all the time when you can make some yourself in just one minute by using glue. Simply apply it to a shoe’s sole and wait for it to dry.

11. Make a fairytale out of bath time.

Your kid will love to take baths if you let in a little fantasy. Take neon sticks and put them in water. Now the bath looks like a world from Avatar!

12. Play tennis with balloons and paper plates.

If it’s cold outside but your kid is asking for a fun activity, make your own “safe” tennis with a ballon and paper plates. Nothing will be ruined at home and your kid will be happy.

13. Create games and activities by using magnetic tape.

Involve your kids in helping you to create a new game and glue magnetic tape to wooden sticks. Write numbers on the bottom and help your little ones count the number of paper clips by sticking them to the tape. This educational game will help you to save money and attract your kids’ attention.

11 Keyboard Combinations That Can Make Your Life Way Easier

Turning a sequence of mouse clicks into a simple press of a key or 2 can go a long way in increasing your productivity. Brainscape calculated that a person spending 8 hours in front of a computer daily can lose 64 hours every year by using a mouse instead of the keyboard for most tasks.

While we might all know a few keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl + C for copy and Ctrl + V for paste, we seldom try to find or use other shortcuts. Bright Side made a list of 11 keyboard shortcuts that will turn you into a power user. Also, for those who are just starting out typing on a keyboard, there’s a bonus at the end!

Redo

For Windows users: While most of you know that the Ctrl + Z is used to undo an action, did you know that there is a keyboard combination that does just the opposite? Pressing Ctrl + Y will redo the action that you undid.

For Mac users: Command + Shift + Z

Screenshot of active window

For Windows users: The Print Screen (PrtSc) key on your keyboard is used to take snapshots of the entire screen. But if you want to quickly take a screenshot of just the active window, press Alt + Print Screen. This will eliminate the need to edit the screenshot to cut out just the active screen.

For Mac users: Command + Shift + 4, then press the Space key. This will change the cursor from the crosshair to the camera icon. Now click on the window you wish to capture.

Snipping tool

Only for Windows 10: To capture parts of the active screen, press the Windows logo key + Shift + S, and select the part of the screen you want to save. The selected part will get saved in the clipboard.

For Mac users: Command + Shift + 4. This will change the cursor from an arrow to crosshair. Now click on the window you wish to capture. Move and drag the crosshair around the area you want to capture.

Create a new folder

For Windows users: The most common way people create a new folder is by right-clicking the mouse or the trackpad, and then selecting the option New > Folder. An easier way is to click the 3 keys Ctrl, Shift, and N together.

For Mac users: Shift + Command + N. This will open a new folder in the Finder.

The Emoji Keyboard

Only for Windows 10: Pressing the Windows key and the Period (full stop) key will display the Emoji keyboard. This won’t work on previous versions of Windows.

For Mac users: Place the cursor in the text field where you’d like to insert an Emoji. Now press Command + Control + Spacebar to access them.

Minimize all windows

For Windows users: What if you need to minimize all open windows immediately? Just pressing the Windows logo key + M will do the magic!

For Mac users: Option + Command + M.

Lock Windows

For Windows users: If minimizing is not enough, you can lock Windows by clicking the Windows logo key and the letter L. To resume, you will have to enter your Windows password.

For Mac users: Control + Shift + Power.

Add a new virtual desktop (for Windows 10)

If you keep a lot of apps open at once or use your PC for very different types of tasks, virtual desktops offer a convenient way to stay uncluttered and organized. To add a new virtual desktop, press the Windows logo key + Ctrl + D. To move back and forth between the virtual desktops, use the key combination: Windows logo key + Ctrl + Right arrow/Left arrow. Pressing the Windows logo key + Ctrl + F4 will close the current virtual desktop.

Google Chrome

Open Chrome in incognito mode

For Windows users: You probably know that Ctrl + N and Ctrl + T are used to open a new window and a tab in Google Chrome. But if you often find yourself using Chrome in the incognito mode, pressing the 3 keys Ctrl, Shift, and N will save you some time.

For Mac users: Command + Shift + N.

Open a recently-closed tab

For Windows users: If you so happen to close a tab by mistake, you can reopen it by pressing Ctrl + Shift + T. Pressing these keys each time will open the previously-closed window. Chrome remembers the last 10 tabs you’ve closed.

For Mac users: Command + Shift + T.

Open links in a new tab without going into that tab

For Windows users: When you use Google to search and click on a search result, a new tab opens up corresponding to the link clicked. If you wish to open more web pages that show up on the search page, you have to keep going back to the search page every time. To remain on the search page and open all search results that you wish to open in separate tabs, hold the Ctrl key while clicking the link. This method will work for all links that you click anywhere while using the Chrome browser.

For Mac users: Press the Command key and click the link.

Bonus: The typing chart

When you start practicing typing, following the correct method will help increase your speed and avoid mistakes. To start, identify the home keys for the fingers of your left hand and the fingers of your right hand.

Home keys for left-hand fingers: A, S, D, F (with the little finger on A)

Home keys for right-hand fingers: ; (semicolon), L, K, J (with the little finger on the semicolon)

The nail color of each finger corresponds to the color of the keys on the keyboard.

After pressing any key, the finger should return to its home key.

Once you have practiced enough and built muscle memory for each key, returning to the home key every time won’t always be necessary.

11 Military Hacks That Can Make Your Life Easier

Did you know that the US army is actually older than the country itself? Originating from the Continental army, it once had George Washington as one of its leaders. And it makes sense that such an established institution would have some great tricks up its sleeve.

We at Bright Side believe that people who serve their country should be thanked, but also looked up to in terms of lifehacks — and here’s a list of the best ones we’ve gotten to know so far.

1. Not just saving water

2. Duct taping your feet

Military shoes can be uncomfortable, so this hack was made to help avoid blisters, hot spots, etc. If you run long distances for long periods of time — you can do the same. Just put some duct tape over the areas on your feet that rub against the shoe the most. You can also put a Band-Aid underneath.

3. Tie the knot

For those big shoes to not untie for long periods of time or for the laces to not get off-center, tie some knots up along the laces — in the center — for it not to move, and closer to the ends if you want the bow to stay in place.

4. Maxi pad is maxi-aid

In a case of an emergency, you can use women’s maxi pads to prevent a person from bleeding out from a wound. Place a maxi pad over the wound and bind it down with duct tape. You can also put maxi pads in your shoes to make the soles warmer and absorb the sweat.

5. Powder up

Did you know that powdering wounds with sugar can prevent bacteria from multiplying? Bacteria can’t survive in a high sugar content, so you can cover the wound with sugar paste or plain sugar. Cover it up until more serious first aid can be administered.

6. Not just for running

Runners tights are not just for running and they are not just a fashion statement — you can put them under almost any pants without them being noticeable and they will keep you warm through really low temperatures.

7. Shine bright like a diamond

There is a very particular hack, when it comes to those shiny soldier shoes. You take a generous amount of shoe shine and apply it onto your shoes or boots and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Then go over the covered spot with a lighter, a flame, or a heat gun and watch how it turns shiny. For a finishing touch use a clean, slightly wet cloth or rag and polish the surface.

8. Military tuck

Now, we wouldn’t recommend this on your wedding day, but if your shirt is slightly ill-fitted or if you have recently lost some weight and haven’t been able to buy new clothes — use the military fold-n-tuck technique to make the shirt appear to fit you better.

9. The fire starter

We’ve all bought those expensive fire starters for camping purposes or just to light up the barbeque. Save yourself some money by applying Vaseline to a cotton ball and use this as a feasible way to start a fire.

10. Lose the “tail”

If, under any circumstances, you think you are being followed while diving — make 4 consecutive turns in a row. If you still can see your follower, proceed to call 911 (US) or drive to the nearest police station right away.

11. The art of bedmaking

To make your bed look crisp and well-made be sure to use the military way. Fold the side part of your sheet and tuck it in. Then fold the footing part of the sheet, making a straight angle on the side and tuck it in as well. It will keep the sheet in place and look neat.

Which of those would you be willing to try out in your non-military life? Be sure to share in the comment section below!

All women, regardless of their age, nationality, or social status, want to look awesome. Sometimes even the tiniest thing can spoil our appearance and mood. We all hate sudden pimples, dull skin, and yellowing tooth enamel. What can we do in these cases?

Bright Side has read tons of information and now we know the answers to some important questions. Here are 15 life hacks that will help you look magnificent and gain everyone’s admiration. By the way, these methods aren’t expensive.

A clear face without acne

A sudden pimple can really spoil your look and mood. But you can get rid of it at home.

You’ll need:

Apply a few drops on a cotton swab and place it in the fridge for 3-5 minutes. Then apply the swab to the pimple. The remedy will make it look smaller and reduce the pain.

There’s also another way to remove pimples.

You’ll need:

  • Bismuth subsalicylate or Pepto-Bismol
  • A makeup brush

This medicine is usually used to treat diarrhea and other gastrointestinal tract disorders, but blogger Natalie assures us that it also deals well with skin issues. You just have to apply bismuth on your face, let it dry, and wash it away. This method will remove redness and make your skin look more elastic. Plump lips

If your lips aren’t plump enough, you don’t have to get lip fillers if you want your lips to look bigger. You can do it without having to leave your home.

You’ll need:

  • 1/3 tsp of ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp of ground Cayenne pepper

Body and face detox

Our body needs a detox from time to time. To make your skin look healthy, use a detox scrub that you can prepare at home.

You’ll need:

Cut a grapefruit into 2, drizzle olive oil on the cut sides of the grapefruit, and dip it into the coffee grounds. Massage your skin in circular motions. Add more olive oil and coffee grounds as needed. By the way, you can also make a detox face scrub. Click here for more details.

Beautiful nails

Yellow spots on our nails look unpleasant and worry us. But it’s really easy to make them look nice again. All necessary ingredients are waiting for you in your bathroom.

You’ll need:

  • Toothpaste
  • An old toothbrush

Apply toothpaste on a brush and rub your nails for a few minutes. After this procedure, the stains will disappear. Check out other simple recipes here.

Voluminous hair

Thin hair makes getting a full-looking style a really tough challenge. If you want your hair to look voluminous, you can try this method.

You’ll need:

  • A comb
  • A clean toothbrush

Part your hair and tease your roots at the crown along your part with the toothbrush. The bristles are so soft that they allow you to retain more control than you’d be able to with a regular hairbrush. For more information, click here.

White teeth

Stop being ashamed of your smile. You don’t need to visit a dentist to whiten your teeth, you can prepare a homemade remedy on your own.

You’ll need:

  • 1 tbsp of turmeric
  • 1 tsp of coconut oil

Make a paste out of all the ingredients. Apply the mixture on a toothbrush and clean your teeth as usual. For better results, leave the paste on your teeth for 5 minutes before you rinse your mouth. More detailed tips and information can be found here.

Your Strength Makes You Easier To Love

strength

Strong girls are easier to love because they have been through hell but they have come out on the other side intact. They might be broken and bruised, but those are not signs of their weakness. Those are signs that they are complete and utter badasses. They have seen the worst — in the world and in themselves — but their hearts are still beating and their lungs are still sucking in air. They are warriors. Survivors. Winners.

Strong girls are easier to love because they are understanding. They are not going to run away at the first signs of trouble. If you have baggage, that is okay, because they have baggage too. They are not going to judge you for your past or think less of you because of what you have been through. They gravitate toward ‘imperfect’ because it is more raw and real. They are not interested in living a pretend life where everything goes right. They realize this world is messy.

Strong girls are easier to love because they are unafraid of vulnerability. They have suffered through losses of family members and have undergone heart-shattering experiences, which is why they know the importance of speaking from the soul. They know they can never say the words I love you enough. They allow their feelings to pour from their lips. They embrace their innermost emotions. They do not want to wait until it is too late to express what another person means to them, because they know how cruel the universe can be. They know someone special could be taken away overnight.

Strong girls are easier to love because they love loudly. They are fiery. Passionate. Spirited. When they have burning hot feelings for someone, they offer their heart on a silver platter. They do not hold back their affection to avoid coming across as clingy. They could not care less what others think of them. They laugh when they want to laugh. They kiss when they want to kiss. They do not let any moment go to waste because they are not sure what tomorrow will bring so they might as well enjoy today.

Strong girls are easier to love because they are on a never-ending path toward self-improvement. They want to become better people. They want to achieve their own personal definition of success. Whenever they reach a goal, they create a new dream. They appreciate what they have but they are never fully  satisfied with what they have because they want to keep moving forward. They do not want to decide their life is good enough and settle. They want to form a better future for themselves each and every day.

Strong girls are easier to love because they are excited by the idea of love, of having someone concrete in their world who will never leave, of having someone around who will help them shoulder their stress and survive the rough times ahead.

Strong girls could do it alone, but they would be more than happy to have you join them on their journey.  TC mark
