12 Funny Memes to Help Cope With the Romaine Lettuce Recall

image

Are we stuck in a Groundhog Day simulation? Because romaine lettuce has been deemed dangerous by the CDC once again. After a widespread E.coli contamination last April, it seems officials are once again issuing a serious advisory against consuming the lettuce, now that 32 people in 11 states have fallen sick with the virus in the last few days, per The New York Times.

The (almost comically) stern advisory about the outbreak is urging Americans to steer absolutely clear of romaine until the CDC does its homework on how to keep us safe from the salad leaf. “Consumers who have any type of romaine lettuce in their home should not eat it and should throw it away, even if some of it was eaten and no one has gotten sick,” it states.

But many on social media aren’t as alarmed by this news as they are, well, amused. With the holidays quickly approaching, most agree that romaine lettuce has no place on the family dinner table, and other salad fans are embracing their impending doom.

Read on for 12 of the funniest reactions to the romaine lettuce panic.

But first, let’s get the puns out of the way.

image

Other notables include, “Lettuce romaine calm,”http://www.distractify.com/”Endive now seen it all,”http://www.distractify.com/”Are we about to turnip?” and “I love romaine lettuce from my head to-ma-toes.”

OK, now that we’ve been through that, it seems important to note how many of the news outlets reporting on the outbreak don’t seem to know what romaine lettuce….looks like.

Like KETK-TV, a local Texas channel, that issued used this image to accompany their very serious headline.

I guess everyone’s mentally checked out for the holidays. This team probably figured it was close enough?

image

Sometimes I feel like media outlets get away with this kind of thing because their viewers don’t challenge them with questions and just take everything they see at face value.

Like this poor old grandma who thinks she’s just doing her civic duty of relaying important and urgent information to her followers.

image

And is then trolled by her granddaughter. First I thought she had just misspelled romaine, but the whole back-and-forth leads me to think now that she just has no idea what she’s talking about.

In the words of the person her short Facebook warning reminds me of: SAD.

Many people are taking the romaine lettuce warning as a challenge to continue living life on the edge. I will get the last laugh when these thrill-seekers have to cite “eating lettuce” as their cause of death, but I do admire their guts.

image

Another guy on Twitter writes, “5 minutes before the CDC alert went out, I bought a salad with romaine lettuce. I ate it anyway and I’ve never felt more alive.”

Come to think of it, when did the CDC alert come out? I enjoyed a caesar salad the other day and I’m feeling less “I want to die” than I have during all of 2018.

image

Like with most things, acceptance is probably the best strategy here.

Many are saying this is the moment they’ve been preparing for their entire lives, when chocolate and red wine are deemed good for your health but salad ingredients are so bad they could kill you.

The 5 year olds in all of us are enjoying their small comeuppances.

image

Let me just say that a pizza, hotdog or donut would NEVER turn on us overnight and decide to kill us with E.coli. But I digress.

Others are asking themselves when the last time they even ate romaine lettuce was. Some are thinking they’ve been right to avoid it all these years, and others are just relishing in a scary news story that doesn’t affect them.

image

Someone else took to Twitter to share this hilarious conversation with his wife.

“Wife: There’s a recall on romaine lettuce for food poisoning.
Me, who’s never eaten a salad in my entire life: I was right.”

If I’m being real, the above sounds to me like my dad just created a social media account and didn’t tell me about it.

The most 2018 YOLO attitude of them all, though, is to just embrace the E.coli, like this stock model, who has officially become my thinspo diet hero.

E.coli means that if you don’t die from puking your guts out, at least you’ll be bikini-ready, right?

image

Ehh, I’d consider it.

This other guy is just enjoying living his life, and posting about it on social media, because that’s just what it means to be alive in this day and age. Honestly, I think his tweet might be my favorite so far.

image

Most importantly of all, we hope that this whole lettuce scare will keep our families from trying to force salad down our throats this holiday season.

12 Happy Movies That Originally Had Shockingly Bleak Endings

image

Movie audiences love happy endings, which kind of sucks for screenwriters who love writing stories with gritty, realistic endings that aren’t always uplifting or neatly tied up in a bow. Because of that, many movies with the standard Hollywood Happy Ending ™ don’t actually start off that way. What normally happens is the film is test-screened first. If the audience hates the ending, it gets chucked and replaced with a different, happier one. It happens a lot more than you think, too. Below, a few of the biggest examples. Warning, there be spoilers ahead!

What Did These 12 Actresses Do to Get Trapped in Christmas TV Movie Hell?

image

There’s a kind of morbid comfort that comes from Lifetime, Hallmark and Other Basic Cable Christmas movies. The same five or six vapidly merry plots get recycled, and you can always expect a familiar face like Candace Cameron Bure or Melissa Joan Hart getting into holiday hijinks. Though a certain personality type is no doubt delighted by this predictability, the more ironic viewer watches in horror as Lacey Chabert makes her 400th attempt to save Christmas. Did these women sell their souls to get steady work, only for the Christmas Krampus to gift them with yuletide B-movies? I’m not sure, but below, 12 actresses who are for sure stuck in the bowels of the TV movie underworld.

1

Candace Cameron Bure

2

Lori Loughlin

3

Melissa Joan Hart

4

Hilarie Burton

5

Danica McKellar

6

12 Weird Facts About 'The Powerpuff Girls' That'll Make You Want to Rewatch it All

image

Ready to feel old? The Powerpuff Girls celebrates its 20th anniversary this month. When series creator Craig McCracken first created the show, he had no idea it would be a hit and assumed only “hipster college kids” would watch it. Instead, the show went on to be one of the biggest cartoons of the ’90s, spurring a movie and numerous spin-offs, including a 2016 reboot (that I like to pretend doesn’t exist).

Although the cartoon’s a classic, and you probably still have a Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup T-shirt in your closet, there’s still a lot about the show you don’t know. From weird facts to storylines that were way creepier than you remember, here are all the reasons you should skip the crappy reboot and watch the original all over again.

1

They were originally called “Whoopass Stew.”

2

The show was never meant to be a kids’ show.

3

Everything about Ms. Bellum was inappropriate.

4

There were plenty of dirty easter eggs lurking in the background, like this one.

5

And this one.

6

The Rowdyruff boys were technically the Powerpuff girls’ brothers.

7

There was an episode that was banned from TV.

8

There was intentional innuendo.

9

Mojo Jojo was voiced by the same guy who did Ghostface in “Scream.”

10

Buttercup’s original name was….really?

11

For a kids’ show, there was a whole lot of death.

12

Him really was supposed to be Satan.

12 Weird Things Celebritiess Did Right After Break Up

image

12 'Rugrats' Plots That Make Me Absolutely Terrified to Ever Have Kids

image

I’m approximately the same age of Rugrats. That is, we were both born in 1991, we’re both 27 years old, and we’re both… wait, actually I’m probably closer in age to the adults in Rugrats. That’s a real eye-opener with recent talks of a reboot, because I’m pretty sure I can no longer watch these dangerous “adventures” unfold without getting anxious that Tommy or Chuckie will get killed or kidnapped. It really makes me terrified of the premise of parenthood: You look away for one second, and those babies are off selling all your furniture, ruining your business deals, and falling off of buildings.

Now granted, I’m not sure if this more of a reflection of the kids being harbingers of chaos or the parents being, you know, bad parents. Like I’d definitely say that there’s a certain amount of neglect that goes into every episode if these kids are constantly wandering off. Either way, let me revisit some hard reasons why the Rugrats kids make me low-key worried about procreating anytime soon.

1

“Waiter, There’s A Baby In My Soup”

2

“Baseball”

3

“Toy Palace”

4

“Garage Sale”

5

“Momma Trauma”

6

“Stu Gets a Job”

7

“Reptar on Ice”

8

“Angelica Breaks a Leg”

9

“Mommy’s Little Assets”

10

“Vacation”

11

“Special Delivery”

12 Celebrity Reddit AMAs That Went Horribly Wrong

image

Ahh, reddit’s famous AMAs (Ask Me Anything) have attracted everyone, from A-list celebs to even former presidents. While most celebs who participate in AMAs leave with a “cool” reputation, for many others, the experience backfires. For one, redditors hate when celebs use AMAs only to promote a project. They also hate when famous folks refuse to answer questions, give blunt/rude answers, or use fake accounts to control the type of questions being asked. In other words, AMAs are about being an open book, and when celebs try to skirt the rules, the reddit community responds with vengeance. Below, a few celebrity AMAs that went horrifically south.

1

Woody Harrelson

2

Morgan Freeman

3

Ann Coulter

4

Mark Wahlberg

5

6

Jenna Elfman

7

8

12 Things Meghan Markle Will Have to Deal With as a Pregnant Royal

image

Now that Meghan Markle is expecting her first child with Prince Harry, things are about to get more intense for the Duchess of Sussex. The next nine months won’t be anything like a typical pregnancy. Since she’s carrying a potential (although unlikely) heir, there’s a long list of outdated rules and decorum she must follow. While some are pretty crummy (no baby showers!), others are actually kind of awesome (a wine list in the delivery room?). Below, everything Meghan has to look forward to during her royal pregnancy.

1

A serious team of medical professionals will be at her beck and call.

2

Don’t expect any privacy.

3

She must have at least two children.

4

She can’t have a baby shower.

5

She’ll get to give birth at the swanky Lindo Wing.

6

The Queen has to be the first to know about the birth.

7

She’ll be paraded in front of cameras immediately after giving birth.

8

She can only name her child with an “appropriate” royal name.

9

And no middle names, either.

10

Cloth diapers, only!

11

But hey, at least they *both* get six months paid leave!

Read on for 12 stories that will literally make you laugh-cry, and @ me if you don’t find yourself cracking up (or weeping, there’s a fine line) at least once while reading. I dare you.
